The part of the house everyone sees and nobody waters
The front is the first thing anyone sees, and it is almost always the worst kept part of the property: narrow strips, constantly walked on, no shade, and the hardest place on the lot to irrigate. No natural grass survives a Miami summer in a twelve-inch band between two slabs.
With artificial grass those strips stay green with no effort, and the contrast against the concrete is exactly what makes a driveway read as looked-after. It is one of the smallest jobs we do and one of the ones that changes a house the most.
Yes, you can drive on it. What lifts it is something else
The question is always whether the car’s weight ruins it, and weight is not the problem. Grass in a driveway strip takes a car driving over it, provided the base was compacted the way a driveway base gets compacted — which is more than a yard base.
What does lift a strip is a badly resolved edge. If the finish against the concrete is not anchored, a tyre turning on top of it eventually catches the edge and peels it. Which is why on this job half the craft is in the edge: how it is cut, what it is fixed to, and what height it sits at relative to the slab.
Height matters more than it sounds: if the grass sits proud of the concrete, the edge is exposed and that is what catches. Flush, it does not.
Walkways and side runs
The same work covers the path from the gate to the door, the narrow run between house and fence, and the joints between patio slabs. Constant foot traffic, partial shade and narrow width — the three conditions that kill natural grass all at once.
On a path there is a second benefit: no mud. That trodden strip of dirt beside the pavers is what ends up inside the house every time it rains.
Oil stains and cleaning
It is a driveway, so sooner or later something drips. Spills sit on the surface of the fibre rather than soaking in, so they clean up at the time with water and a mild soap. What you do not want is to let it dry for weeks and then attack it with solvent.
The rest of the upkeep is blowing leaves off now and then, exactly as you already do with the paving.

Clay pavers with turf running between them. Every joint is cut to its own gap — a finger of slack and you can see it from the street.

A narrow strip with the path lights already set. Every light is a hole where water can get in and the edge can let go, so each one gets sealed during the install.

A narrow side yard with stepping stones and a wood deck at the end. Every stone gets cut by hand. You go slow, stone by stone, and you end up walking it without catching a single edge.
Questions about this service
Can I drive over the strips?
Yes, if the base is compacted for it from the start and the edge is anchored and flush with the concrete. Weight is not what ruins it. What lifts it is an edge sitting proud with a tyre turning right on top of it.
How is it finished against concrete so it does not peel?
It depends what it meets. The strip is cut to size and fixed at the edge, and the key is that it finishes flush and not proud. An edge that sticks up is the one that catches, and an edge merely laid in place peels at the first turning wheel.
What if oil or fuel drips on it?
Clean it at the time with water and a mild soap — the fibre does not absorb it, it sits on top. What to avoid is leaving the stain for months and then going at it with a strong solvent.
Does it work for the front walkway?
Yes, and it is one of the places where the difference shows most: constant traffic, partial shade and little width are precisely the three things natural grass cannot handle together.
